Cat convertor cut off and stolen. Do the thieves sell it for the metal?
happen to look under my 92 Toy p/u n saw muffler hanging. Checked and saw my cat convertor was sawed off. Is it that easy that I couldn’t have heard any noise.? And what’s the metal worth?
There’s no precious metal as such inside the converter. The white ceramic sub-straight inside the converter has been vapor coated with a very minute coating of platinum and rhodium. Who ever stole it has to sell it to someone else as it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment to acid clean the ceramic away for a few dollars worth of precious metal sponge (dust) which has to me re-melted and re-finned to get all the junk out.
